Why the world needs the Global Fund

In the 10 years since its founding, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has worked in 150 countries, passed out 230 million anti-malarial bed nets, treated a reported 8 million cases of tuberculosis and supported the treatment of 3.3 million HIV-positive individuals with antiretroviral drugs. The coming decade will bring new challenges for the Global Fund. Paul Farmer, a public health expert and co-founder of Partners in Health, explains why the world needs an effective and well-financed Global Fund.
