In the 10 years since its founding, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has worked in 150 countries, passed out 230 million anti-malarial bed nets, treated a reported 8 million cases of tuberculosis and supported the treatment of 3.3 million HIV-positive individuals with antiretroviral drugs. The coming decade will bring new challenges for the Global Fund. Paul Farmer, a public health expert and co-founder of Partners in Health, explains why the world needs an effective and well-financed Global Fund.
